Focus Timer to Match Your Own Work and Break Rhythm

A focus timer helps you work in timed chunks and take breaks in between. Unlike a fixed Pomodoro (e.g. 25 minutes work, 5 break), a focus timer lets you choose both the work length and the break length. That way you can use 20-minute blocks if you prefer shorter sessions, or 45-minute blocks if you concentrate better in longer stretches. This tool runs in your browser: you set the intervals, start the timer, and follow the cycle. No account is required. Many people find that knowing a break is coming makes it easier to stay focused during the work block, and that customising the lengths improves consistency.

What Does This Tool Do?

This focus timer is a simple countdown: you set a work interval (e.g. 30 minutes) and a break interval (e.g. 10 minutes). When you start, it counts down the work period. When it reaches zero, it switches to the break and counts down the break period. After the break, it starts the next work period automatically. You can pause and resume, or reset to start over with the same or new intervals. The tool does not store your sessions or track history; it just runs the timer in the current tab. You can use it for study, writing, coding, or any task where timed focus and breaks help.

How to Use It

  • Step 1: Set your work interval

Enter the length of your focus block in minutes (1–90). Choose a length that fits your attention span and task type.

  • Step 2: Set your break interval

Enter the length of your break in minutes (1–30). Shorter breaks (e.g. 5 minutes) keep momentum; longer ones (e.g. 15) help if you need to move or rest your eyes.

  • Step 3: Start the timer

Click Start. The timer counts down the work period. Use this time for focused work without switching tasks.

  • Step 4: Take the break when it rings

When the work period ends, the timer switches to the break. Step away, stretch, or rest. When the break ends, the next work period begins.

  • Step 5: Pause or reset as needed

Use Pause to stop the countdown temporarily, and Start again to continue. Use Reset to stop and restart from the current interval length.

Key Features

  • Custom work interval from 1 to 90 minutes.
  • Custom break interval from 1 to 30 minutes.
  • Automatic switch between work and break.
  • Pause, resume, and reset.
  • No sign-up; runs in the browser.

Use Cases

Use the focus timer when you want timed work and breaks but not a fixed 25/5 pattern. For example: 45-minute work and 15-minute break for deep reading or writing; 20-minute work and 5-minute break for revision or admin. You can also use it for language practice (e.g. 30 minutes listening, 10 break) or coding (e.g. 50 minutes coding, 10 break). Combine it with a study planner: plan your blocks in the planner and run the focus timer during each block. If you find yourself losing focus before the timer ends, try shortening the work interval and building up.
